Web Application Design
Role:
UX & UI Designer
Project overview
This project focuses on designing a custom web application tailored for new tenants applying to luxury apartments. Given the lack of existing software that meets the specific needs of high-end properties, I researched and designed a solution that offers a streamlined, intuitive user experience for both applicants and leasing managers.
Challenges
Transforming a paper process
The primary challenge was converting a lengthy, traditional paper-based application form into a web-based system that remained functional and aligned with the luxury branding. This included considerations for specific needs, such as pet restrictions, parking, and bike locker room availability."
Complexity and scale
The system required a complex prototype consisting of over 30 pages to properly illustrate the workflow and ensure each step of the tenant application process was intuitive and user-friendly. This also involved addressing finer details like error states, a full login system, and more.
Solutions
Simplified form structure
The lengthy paper form was broken down into smaller, manageable sections, with auto-save functionality added to provide users with a sense of security. Optional sections were neatly collapsed into accordions, preventing users from feeling overwhelmed by unnecessary information.
Comprehensive management system
A detailed leasing management system was developed to track all necessary fields. Each part of the application form was seamlessly integrated with key sections of the management system, allowing leasing managers to efficiently sort and process applications.
Wireframes and prototypes
Wireframes and high-fidelity prototypes were created to validate the user flow, ensuring a seamless experience for applicants. These prototypes also facilitated alignment with stakeholders on the required content fields.
Results
The rental management system succeeded in offering a seamless, user-friendly application process, enhancing the overall tenant experience. The design’s modern aesthetics and functional approach elevated the digital interaction, further aligning with the property’s luxury branding. The high-fidelity prototype helped refine the user journey, contributing to the project’s success.
